Philip is an incredible lawyer. He is very skilled at what he does and it shows in his results. DO NOT HIRE Viater! Appeared a successful and confident lawyer before retained. But once retained, always not available for the client and opposing counsel, no matter through email, phone call, or his clerk. Did nothing but delay and destroy the case. Suddenly abandoned clients. Terrible advice which destroyed the case. No formal retain agreement. No monthly invoice; sudden big shocking bill without billing details, FOR DOING NOTHING BUT DESTROY YOUR CASE! If you are going to pick the one lawyer who cares then hire Mr. Viater. I interviewed so many lawyers at first. I hired one who worked at a big firm thinking that was the best way to go. After spending so much with no results my friend referred me to Mr. Viater for a 2nd opinion. I immediately loved his approach and strategy and hired him. He is a fierce litigator. When I see him in court he is always just so well prepared and sharp. When my ex finally saw that I had someone who was willing to fight for me everything changed. He was finally being put in his place and could no longer bully me through court. Mr. Viater got me what I wanted. I feel foolish that I wasted so much time and spent so much on a big firm when Mr. Viater was so much better. I wasn’t just a case number. I was a person. My kids mattered. I highly recommend Philip. He was very dependable in my time of need. His memory of my case was so good that he was reminding me of events that even I forgot happened. He is very quick thinking so try to keep up. He is busy and I did sometimes have to wait for him to respond but when I had emergencies he was always there. I thought Lyna also did a phenomenal job helping with my file. These two are truly a great team and she helped fill in when Philip was busy. In terms of billing, I think he billed very fairly. The bills added up because my ex argued everything but I found that I wasn’t charged for many minor tasks or conversations that I expected to be charged for. Only Mr.P.V.'s rivals could write neg. reviews below. I never met a more knowledgeable lawyer with such great integrity/humility. Thanks to Philip's outstanding integrity, insightful definition of our problem after only a 1.5 hour Zoom meeting, and UTMOST knowledge of law, I found myself finally in the position of defending the lawyers from horrible stereotypes about them, as just a thought of Mr. V. is enough to prompt me to vigorously defend lawyers. Even though Philip was overloaded with work, he took time to write a letter for us to summarize our case for another lawyer. I cried when I saw that letter as no one before Mr. V. had come close to grasping what our case is all about despite getting a pile of $ from us. Whoever gets lucky to get their case accepted by him, should spend the next few months thanking God for it. I am a professional woman. I value hard work, honesty, and integrity. Philip meets these criteria. Philip is a great lawyer whom I highly recommend. I have to say that he is one of the few lawyers who actually cares. He was always direct with me. My husband was a bully. The easiest issues could not get resolved. Philip took care of this once we were able to get court dates. He won the motions we needed to finally get my husband to concede. Philip is an excellent courtroom lawyer. He is so articulate and gets the point across. He comes prepared and seems to know the file inside out. His knowledge of the law is next level. He was educating the judges on the law and they were listening to him and respecting him. What I also really liked was that Philip was ready to go to trial any time, which I know he specializes in. Philip has been handling my case for a few weeks now including my last motion in court. I was really unhappy with my last lawyer as I felt he didn’t take time to answer my questions and I was just a file. With Philip it is completely different. The minute he got his hands on my case we were able to turn things around and I won the motion and got a much better schedule for our children. He really cares about what is best for the kids and he will fight for you. He is very well respected in Court. He also helped me to negotiate a Much better financial settlement. Due to his strong knowledge of the finances he was able to pick up on things that my previous lawyer didn’t and he worked with the other lawyer to ensure I received a much better result. Philip really got me out of a bind. He is an amazing lawyer and I would recommend him to anyone. He is a shark in court and when the judge heard what he had to say he immediately understood my position and sided with Philip. The other lawyer and my ex husband were so mad because after Philip started speaking in court, it all went downhill for them. Philip is an excellent communicator and knows how to read the judges. He has a way of putting things into perspective so the judge understands the situation better. He got me sole custody of my children because he recognized my ex's pattern of behaviour that was not in the kids' best interest. He also got me an amazing parenting schedule. The team of Philip and Daniel are a force not to be reckoned with. I hired Philip for my nasty divorce. I didn’t feel my other lawyer was strong enough. Philip told me that he would have one of his associates help with some of the paperwork. I was hesitant as I wanted Philip to do everything, but I agreed to try it out since Philip confirmed that he reviews everything anyway (and doesn’t even charge extra for it). I have to say that Daniel did an amazing job!!! The paperwork was phenomenal. When Daniel appeared in court he was sharp! But when Philip attended court it was truly a work of art. He was so elegant. I was referred to Philip from a friend. Best referral ever. Sometimes he is hard to get a hold of because he is busy, but he just somehow remembers everything and is very well prepared. The pros outweigh the cons for sure. When he is in court, he is amazing. He gives a lot of paperwork to the other lawyers in the office, but they are amazing. In court Philip is bar none the best. He is so comfortable and confident and thorough. My ex wife even ended up referring her friend to him and said she wished she hired Philip instead of her lawyer. I can laugh about it now since we are now on good terms again (thankfully for the sake of our children) but we both still laugh that we agree that Philip did a great job and was able to settle the case to make us both happy. Philip argued a motion in court, as the agent for my lawyer who could not attend that day. I was so glad my lawyer sent him. The result was that my soon to be ex spouse was ordered to pay me 3500.00 in costs! Philip was really great in court and the got me this amazing costs order. Philip was fantastic. I did not have a very contentious divorce but definitely needed someone to help preserve my rights. Philip made sure I understood what I was entitled to and made sure I got it. Our son was a little bit older and custody was not a problem for my divorce. It was all about money. Philip helped me divide our assets and work out a fair support amount for my husband to pay me, even with joint custody. After a year of working with my previous lawyer and not getting any results, I located Philip on lawyerratinz.com. I hired him to help me succeed in getting the matrimonial home sold so I could finally move on in life and stop being controlled by my ex-spouse living in the matrimonial home for free with no desire to move at all. I cautioned Philip that he would have a real challenge on his hands. Every single false accusation anyone could possibly dream up was thrown at me for over a year with my previous lawyer. Of course, stall tactics and false accusations were used again when Philip took over the case, but he was able to dismiss the false accusations and have a judge look at my ex-spouse saying "stop trying to manipulate the courts".

Philip gave me my life back! I had 4 lawyers before Philip, 3 did damage Philip had to repair. All 4 came highly recommended. Knowing how that turned out, I did some research myself and found this site. Picking from the top profiles, I called each one; Philip being my last call. Philip told me more in my initial call than the 4 lawyers + 2 lawyers from this site combined. Philip has the memory of a computer but faster. I am not joking, watching him handle the opposition and the judge in trial without needing to refer to his notes made me speechless. I would also like to add I saw Philip resolve many other files before trial. I questioned him why resolve? His answer was, “it’s not always about the money”. I almost wish I could turn back time, go through a divorce again just to watch Philip in action. It would have been much cheaper with better results from the beginning. I went through a very difficult separation process with my ex. After 3 years and going to court 3 times, we still didn't have a separation agreement. I have to say that I am very happy that I hired Philip for my divorce with my wife. This is my honest review. I found Philip very approachable and likeable. After interviewing several lawyers before him, I decided to hire Philip the same day I met him. He had a lineup of clients waiting for him, which I liked because it gave me confidence that he was a good lawyer. He wasn't on call for me all the time but I found him to communicate fairly effectively. He would sometimes respond to my e-mails at late hours, which is something I found to be very good because it showed him to be a hard worker. Sometimes I needed to contact him a couple times because he was busy but it ended up being ok. It was definitely a small sacrifice. He did communicate very well in general. He has an amazing memory and somehow remembers my case when I speak to him on the phone without him even having his notes. His work is top notch. He represented himself at first even though he has a lot of money because he thinks he's smarter than everyone. Philip dealt with him expeditiously in court. My ex was put in his place time and time again. Finally my ex hired a lawyer from a big firm thinking it would scare me. Philip then dealt with Mr. Big Shot lawyer who was no match for us. I just found out about this website and felt compelled to post a review about Philip. Last year he helped me out with my divorce. I am a grade 6 teacher and my husband is a high school teacher. My ex was the biggest bully to me but tried to use the fact that he was also a teacher to try to convince the judge that he is a fit parent. Philip worked diligently with me to show my husband's true colours. I proved that he was a bully. I proved that he had an alcohol problem. I proved that he was not able to be an equal parent until he changed his ways. I am so grateful that I was able to prove these things with Philip because I wanted my husband to stop for the sake of our children. After one year he has gotten a lot better and we are finally able to start co-parenting better with each other. But if it wasn't for Philip bringing him down in the first place, my ex would be the same old bully and our children would suffer. I am so thankful.

I met Mr. Viater in court during a motion my wife brought for supervised access. I saw Mr. Viater argue a case for another client and I was so impressed that I approached him in the halls to see if he was interested in assisting me as well. I found him to be very approachable and likable. We met in his office the next day and I hired him. As my lawyer I found him to be incredibly knowledgeable and "on the ball". I'm a busy guy myself so it was important that he be willing to work around my schedule. Usually I was able to get him (although I admit that sometimes I had to wait a couple days; but I understand busy schedules). His work was impeccable. He was worth hiring. He somehow remembers everything I tell him during the past meetings. He is level headed and was able to calm me down during some of the tougher times. My divorce case was simple but my spouse and her lawyer were very difficult to deal with. My previous lawyer was incompetent save for when it came time to pay her invoice. I fired her and hired Philip. Philip really cares about his clients. I would send him an email late evening and he responded within minutes no matter how late. At times I felt like I was his only client. I would call him expecting to get his voicemail and he would actually answer. And he always made time to see me. Philip does not hide behind a secretary. He personally takes care of his clients and brings a sense of humanity in an otherwise difficult time. He is level headed and stays calm which only helped my case. Philip Viater saved my life! I was going through a really nasty divorce with very serious allegations against me made by my ex. I could have ended up in prison. I could have ended up without my children. I was referred to Phil by a friend and I am so grateful to Phil for the time and effort he put into my case. My wife had me frivolously charged with assault to get me out of our house and to try to get sole custody of our child. I quickly hired Philip who not only got my charges dropped, but got me back into the house AND kicked her out of the house. Philip was able to show that my wife was unstable and should not be with our kid alone. I got sole custody. Thank god. If it weren't for Philip my life would be destroyed.
