When my marriage fell apart a co-worker referred me to their divorce lawyer, Claire Klassen. Although my divorce has been lengthy (over 5 years), many delays were caused by the incompetence of my wife’s lawyer (disorganized, forgetful, etc.). Regardless, Claire did her best to keep the divorce moving forward to resolution. If you’re looking for a good divorce lawyer, I would highly recommend Claire Klassen.

Claire stepped in to help me when my world was at its worst. I had a horrifically toxic separation that was filled with many legal threats and I didn't have the knowledge to understand what my rights were or the ability to separate fact from fiction. Within the first few weeks Claire began to pave my way to freedom. I knew what my boundaries were, I was able to change my locks and had a list of documents to gather so that we could begin building my case. Claire always responded when I was in a bind or when I encountered a situation where I felt like legal counsel was required. For a contentious divorce, Claire was wonderful! Her billing was fair and she was very direct with her replies. I would highly recommend her!

Comment made in 2020 is EXACT ditto of my experience ! $40k spent, 10 years, with allowance MULTIPLE infractions of preservation orders, consent orders, court orders of other party & STILL NO MOVEMENT Forward. I swear she's defending/working for the other party. Her invoicing is NOT detailed and she outright REFUSES to discuss it. Will NOT quote Rules of court, Law, Litigation etc for her actions, or YOUR inquiries to such. Does NOT respond to client/case questions on 'print' .. just evasive answers & blow offs. Provides Nothing but ' Empty Threats' to other party, & Empty promises to her Client. She is NOTHING SHORT of financial, emotional, physiologically abusive to her clients. Does NOT fulfill her Fiduciary Duty in ANY WAY. Her 'professional conduct ' is embarrassing. Her Assistant absolute incompetence as well !

Retaining Claire Klassen from Emery Jamieson nearly a decade ago, after a referral from another lawyer, was undoubtedly the best decision I could have made for myself and my family. Her handling of my long and arduous divorce was nothing but professional, fair and truly insightful.
She made it known throughout the process that she knew it was a case she had to win, for moral and ethical reasons. So, having a lawyer by my side that understood the upmost importance of each step, made it easier for me to still accomplish things in my own career and allowed me the mental space to succeed and start a new life as well.
Despite being incredibly busy, Claire maintained the strength to win my case in Special Chambers and I could not be more grateful for the new life we are all privy to, thanks to Claire's dedication and outstanding efforts. I have dealt with this lawyer on two matrimonial problems. Both were fairly and expediently dealt with. She doesn't like bully lawyers who try to escalate conflict. If you want an expert who will get you the best result for reasonable fees, she's the one.

Hands down, without a doubt, I would have Claire represent me again. Claire is fiercely brilliant and relentlessly confident. Claire knows her business and she knows it well. After meeting Claire for the first time, I knew she was the lawyer I needed. Claire is full, frank, and fair. Claire is organized and her expectations are candid. If you're looking for a lawyer perfectly invested in divorce and family law, Claire is your lawyer. While I sincerely hope to never require Claire's services again, I wouldn't have anyone else represent me. Claire's knowledge and tenacity alone, was worth every penny spent while I fought through the most difficult time in my life. I really and truly could not have endured this process without her. I'm not one to author a review for any service that is less than exceptional service. Claire Klassen delivered exceptional service.

Ms.Claire Klassen was recommended to me by a friend. She was very patient and displayed the necessary sensitivity that is required when children are involved in a divorce. I recommended Claire Klassen to a friend because of the great work she did in representing me in what ended up being a really complex case. She was recommended to me by a work mate who was thrilled with her professionalism. My friend went onto this site and texted me about the bad rating. I couldn't believe it, so I checked it out. People, if you are on this site, don't believe the negative comments. They are not true based upon my experience and my work-mate's experience.

She does not care how, or to what degree she has inflicted harm, whether financially, emotionally or psychologically. She is solely focused on responding to your opposition’s interests while completely dismissing yours, her client. She milks you for every possible $$$$$ without regard to moving your matter forward ethically. She likes to use phone calls and private meetings where it is your word against hers. This is where she uses Badgering! Emotional bullying to get her way. It’s her way, or highway. She does not possess the courage to go to court on your behalf as she is intimidated by opposition’s counsel, or appearing before judge. I asked her for the case law she was basing her opinion on; she replied she couldn’t do that. Red Flag!? She is old and highly unethical. I would never recommend her, and would advise to stay far away from this “so called” lawyer. She is the only lawyer whose picture identity is not displayed on Emery Jamieson website. Telling?

DIRTY, DISGUSTING, DISRESPECTFUL child who is a lawyer geesh. This lawyer has no integrity, like her pockets full and puts the child interests last, SHES A BULLY, her assistant has no organizational skills, last minute everything and lies when your not at court stating we sent them the info to gain the upper hand. DISGUSTING and DISTASTEFUL. I hope the people suing you win and get their money back as you deserve to lose.

Claire Klassen of Emery Jamieson LLP represented me in matrimonial settlement. She demonstrated a wealth of knowledge and experience in divorce and family law and is highly attentive to detail. She demonstrated a conciliatory style that struck a balance between tactful maneuvering and assertive positioning while bringing understanding and objectivity to the emotional nature of the matter.
Claire worked diligently and ethically on my behalf to achieve a favourable result. She helped me make informed decisions and counseled me when my perspective was inappropriate, explaining the legal rationale against or how my best interest would not be served. Yet, she accommodated my perspective when she was convinced of its merits. She was also helpful by counseling me on the law and legal protocol.
Claire turned out strong work products in an efficient manner. She was more than fair with her rate and billing and her efforts were appropriately itemized and accounted for on each invoice.

Nothing is important to her and her assistant is just as bad. She likes to respond at 3:00 on Fridays or the day before court is scheduled and says she isn’t ready to go. Plan on spending a ton of money on her.

Having Claire Klassen do work for me on two different cases has given me inside information on the type of person Claire is. I can only speak for myself and was very pleased with Claire performance. I had a difficult case and Claire did very well and I got very good work out of her. I anyone wants a professional lawyer who delves into and tackles the most difficult cases that go on for years.

My experience is contrary to those below (sour grapes?). I had an urgent matter that was dealt with right away. I hired Claire because of her excellent reputation in the legal community. She is among the most respected lawyers in family law in the province.She is great in court, always well prepared and I got great bang for my buck. It is true that on not urgent matters timelines are longer -- but hey, that's both the system and a measure of her business. I would hire her again in a heartbeat.

This law firm unlawfully charges interest to accounts which is against the interest law act. I encourage you to use extreme caution when dealing with this law firm. QUESTION your bill and keep your own records. My bill was in excess of $100,000 and they were willing to negotiate it in the end because I questioned their billing tactics. we are currently suing them for a number of different reasons. I encourage you to hire a litigation lawyer or take your bill to taxation if you feel they haven't served you well.

I was saddened to read the reviews on Claire Klassen because I too was "taken" by her back in 2003. Same story to share as the others here. 4 years to get a divorce that was mutual!Worst part was that I found out I was legally divorced by my 9 year old when he shared that my ex husband had gotten engaged. I didnt even know that my divorce judgment had been passed for over 3 months. The law society did absolutely nothing for me as well to address the funds she held in trust and then stole in her legal fees. The woman is unethical and shouldnt be practicing.

Claire has been my lawyer for 3 years!! Yes, 3 years! She does a great job at pushing paper work and not getting things done. Both her assistant and her are horrible to deal with. They do not return call and if they do, they are quick to dismiss you. We were told our draft divorce agreement would be finished in 2 weeks, 12 weeks later it was finally done. The reason being family medical issues, if this was the case could her assistant not have emailed and said she was not working on our case? She has made thousands of dollars off of our family and sadly it has came to a point where it isn't worth it to switch lawyers. She has a hard time fighting for her client and has a lot of sympathy for my ex. Would not recommend to anyone! I would not put anyone through the 3 years of hell I've been through

Claire was amazing to reel me in to be a client then completely ignored, her "assistant" does not return phone calls or emails. After, being told there were family issues on her part she would finally do the work, 2 weeks later again still no call from Claire. I had to get the Alberta Law Society involved and thank God for them. Fro beginning to end took 4 days to get my money and documents back. I recommended this lady to another at work and she has had the same problem with Claire and her "assistant" no communication and nothing done.
