This man is the best lawyer I have come across, he cares and take great care of his clients. I have referred many of my friends and they all had the same experience. Mergs is very Patient with his clients and he is very knowledgable and has vast experience in the field. He always listens and doesn’t rush, guides his clients and gives all the attention and time required. In our case it was my wife, my Daughter and I were involved in the MVA and our case was complicated as the other party involved had a rental vehicle with no valid insurance of any sorts. My wife and I separated after marriage break down and, wanting to keep costs down, enlisted the services of a company offering mediation services. We worked through the mediation process but my wife didn't think things were going at the speed she desired and so she retained a lawyer. I knew this would drive costs up and, because of her not working, could place us in financial harms way. So, I decided I needed to hire a lawyer to act on my behalf. I was lucky, though, as a buddy from work was in the middle of a divorce and that he was impressed with his lawyer Mergs Pillay. I made an appointment and met with Mergs. He was very compassionate to my situation and he said he would be able to help. We worked together with my wife and her lawyer and after about a month got to the point where we could sign our Separation Agreement. I believe that the fees were fair and that he really had my best interest at heart. I don't hesitate at all in recommending Mergs to anyone going through the same.

I was first referred to Pillay Law by a friend who had worked with Mergs for both her divorces. I am very grateful to Mergs for handling my case in the manner that he did. I wanted a swift finalization of my common law relationship and he delivered that. With great attention to detail, compassion and understanding, his calming and direct demeanor removed much of the stress from the situation and he always took time to explain everything.
We were able to put my contentious separation to rest and allow me the peace of mind to move on with my life. The fees he charged were more than fair for the amazing service he provided. He went as far to allow me time to pay while I get my business off the ground and start my life over.

Very bad experience with Mr. Mahendra(Mergs) Pillay. Unreasonable and extremely expensive attorney fee, very dishonest double billing. Besides the retainer fee, He made me believe it is a common practice to pay at least another twenty thousand CAD in advance to keep in his account which later I found out that was complete false.
His statement of account has no billing cycles, no breakdown on hours worked per item. Two of the double charged bills were sent to me four months later and without even a signature.
Intentionally dragging the case much longer than it necessarily needs in order to charge more fee, at the end refuse to refund legal fee previously paid in advance. Dare me to speak to the tax office.
When asked him to review the bill issue, he simply told me to hire a new lawyer, and when I did, Mr. Pillay refused to speak to me anymore claiming because I had hired a new lawyer.
All in all, a terrible experience that I wish not to happened to anyone else.

This lawyer is amazing for those of us who are branded with contempt or have any other ongoing criminal matters with the law. He charges a pretty penny, that's for sure, but he will do anything to help get you out of a tight spot. He knows how to look professional, personable, charming, but is a shark underneath it all. He has a lot of experience with the worst of the worst and will be loyal to the bitter end. If you want to play "above the table" and with some sort of "holier than thou" ethical attitude, it won't be worth your time to hire this lawyer. He works best with cases that are on the edge, challenging, and does a pretty fine job at it I must say. He acts like your best friend, but really he is in it for the money, like the rest of them. Can you blame him, if he can reel in the Clients who are willing to pay the real big bucks? Wouldn't want to get on his bad side, that's for sure. His partner has apparently been suspended in the past--I wonder if he'll be next.

A few weeks ago I was in court and while waiting for the judge to hear my case, Mr Pillay and his client were presenting their case. It was a pleasure watching this slimy lawyer and his client who looks like a **** (apparently also a officer of the court) commit perjury. Mergs was caught in a lie within 30 seconds of saying his client was paid up to date in his child and spousal support. Default action in April, may, june, July, Aug. Both of these lawyers should lose their right to practice. Everyone in the gallery chuckled when the judge kept reading the default Actions on MEP'S SOA. This freak is a lawyer but yet can't pay to put food in his kids mouths! I can't believe our courts let people like this practice in our system! It's time we only let professionals practice! This is a big part of what's wrong with our justice system!

I was attending court last week for a buddy of mine. This lawyer, AND his client (who is apparently also a lawyer) BOTH got nailed for perjury by the judge! They lied to the judge's face, right there in the courtroom! The documents proved it. He was trying to cover up for his "deadbeat dad" client not paying child support to the enforcement program. The client dude is a lawyer and defaults on supporting his own kids. The two made a perfect team in court. Sounds like there will be some pretty major consequences, both for refusing to pay and for flat-out lying about it under oath. I heard that Pillay and his firm were also involved in a very serious mortgage fraud case a few years back. Be forewarned about this guy. Don't be fooled by his articulate and persuasive demeanor. I wouldn't trust him with a ten-foot pole if I were you, or his client for that matter.
